Today the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) and the Big Lottery Fund (BIG) have announced that Lordship Recreation Ground in Haringey has been awarded confirmed funding of £3.8million under their Parks for People scheme. The 23-hectare park, known by locals as The Rec, was opened in 1932 and is one of the few open spaces serving a densely populated inner urban area that includes the Broadwater Farm Estate.

4,000 attend event to showcase the talents and concerns of Tottenham’s communities, and the potential of Tottenham’s largest park, on the eve of Lottery funding decision (due Sept 28th)
The 2010 Lordship Rec Community Festival, Lordship Lane, Tottenham on Sat 13th Sept was a huge success. Around 4,000 attended and took part in the activities which went on from 11am to 5pm. The event was organised and co-ordinated by the Lordship Rec Users Forum, the community-led stakeholders organisation driving forward the regeneration of the park. This year, in addition to the usual activities, the event incorporated a ‘Make A Change’ sports participation extravaganza (co-ordinated by the Council’s Leisure Services team) and the ‘Tottenham Green Fair’ (co-ordinated by the Back 2 Earth local charity).

Please bring secateurs and any gardening tools you may have.

In addition, we’ll have the full, final application (3 huge ring-binder volumes) as sent in to the Heritage Lottery Fund for anyone who wants to look through it to check the maps, designs, charts, photos and small print!
And, if that’s not enough fun, some of us will go after the meeting to do some work in the woodland to thin out some of the shrubs, dogwood and nettles. Feel free to bring secateurs/shears…
