Build a picture of Lordship Rec Biodiversity
There is a phone app available, iNaturalist (https://www.inaturalist.org/) , that allows you to identify and post information and photos of wildflowers, trees and wildlife in your local green space. Get involved and, by using it, we can together build up a picture of the biodiversity of Lordship Rec. This is the specific Lordship Rec part of the site.

People Need Parks and Friends Anniversary
The Friends of Lordship Rec are 20yrs old in June this year. For the past 20 years we have grown our membership and active volunteering and totally transformed our park from the neglected, anti-social wilderness it was in 2001 to the vibrant, popular and loved park it is today with its beautiful river, orchard, meadows, increased biodiversity, cycling and exercise facilities and its fantastic community building, Lordship Hub.
On 26th June (Covid restrictions permitting) from 1-5pm, we are co-organising with the Council a large community festival in the Rec called People Need Parks, which will include sports activities, dance and music performance, food and drink, children’s activities and pony rides, nature walks and stalls and workshops.
Put the date in your diary!
Lordship Hub and Park Volunteers Picnic, Sunday 6th June, 12-4pm
At the back of the Hub.
To coincide with national Volunteers Week we will be celebrating the voluntary efforts of those who help make the Hub and the Park such great community spaces. The Hub depends on a range of fantastic people contributing their time in all kinds of ways – for the cafe, office, and Board, and helping with activities and publicity. As we prepare for full re-opening soon let’s take a moment to get together to appreciate each other and enjoy one another’s company.
This month is also the 20th Anniversary of the Friends of Lordship Rec [50 park users attended the launch meeting in the Broadwater Community Centre on June 11th 2001]. So we will hold a short session during the picnic (2-3pm) to note the occasion!
All volunteers welcome – you are invited to bring some food to share.
Called by the Lordship Hub Co-operative – contact kate@lordshiphub.org.uk . Supported by the Friends of Lordship Rec

Walk on the wildside
Clear your mind of worries with a walk on the wildside in Lordship Rec with other people and focus on the beauty of nature that surrounds us. Slow down and take a walk through the woods and the orchard and take in the river banks and the wildlife lake and notice the wildflowers and wildlife.
Friends of Lordship Rec are leading a walk on Friday 14th at 11am, meeting at the Downhills Park Road gate by the woodland area to mark Mental Health Awareness Week. The walk is likely to last between 1-1.5 hours.

Friends 20th Anniversary
This year in June the Friends of Lordship Rec will have been in existence for 20 years. During that time we have been at the forefront of major changes and improvements in the Rec and helped transform it from a neglected lonely place to a popular park with lots of beautiful natural and play/sport facilities.
The friends have built up volunteering in the park and there are now groups involving lots of local residents, looking after the orchard, the woodland, the meadows, the lake and the spinney.
If we are permitted we will be holding lots of fun activities in the Rec on June 26th to celebrate our birthday. Keep an eye on the website and facebook for more information.
