2010 Community Festival in Lordship Rec a huge success!

4,000 attend event to showcase the talents and concerns of Tottenham’s communities, and the potential of Tottenham’s largest park, on the eve of Lottery funding decision (due Sept 28th)

The 2010 Lordship Rec Community Festival, Lordship Lane, Tottenham on Sat 13th Sept was a huge success. Around 4,000 attended and took part in the activities which went on from 11am to 5pm. The event was organised and co-ordinated by the Lordship Rec Users Forum, the community-led stakeholders organisation driving forward the regeneration of the park. This year, in addition to the usual activities, the event incorporated a ‘Make A Change’ sports participation extravaganza (co-ordinated by the Council’s Leisure Services team) and the ‘Tottenham Green Fair’ (co-ordinated by the Back 2 Earth local charity).

The festival is organised collectively by the organisations involved in the LRUF, and by all those involved in putting on activities there. Its a huge challenge for all of us, and we can only pull it off again if loads of people help out from the very beginning.

Can everyone who wants to help make this year’s event a success please come along to the launch meeting.

We need to discuss:

  • activities we want to see happen
  • funding
  • co-ordination

Hello there! Will you be coming to the the Lordship Rec Community Festival on Saturday, 12th September?? Back 2 Earth have comandeered a whole section of the festival which will be centred around our annual Tottenham Flower and Produce Show. This is an opportunity for all of Haringey’s green-fingered gardeners, allotment owners and back-garden wonder workers to get involved and show how abundant this borough is for growing fresh produce. There are so many categories which people can enter, not just fruit and vegetables…

So if you didn’t know about our marquee then please have a look through the leaflets attached to this e-mail. And even if you don’t enter (even with categories for best weed, flower arranging, minature gardens, jam making etc), we’d love you to come along on the day, to see some beautiful flowers and produce. And join in with the general community atmosphere. There is a lot going on, literally, fun for all the family.

We hope to see you there

regards

Felix Waterhouse
Volunteer and Trainee Co-ordinator, Back 2 Earth – Broadwater Farm Community Centre
